Legal Aid
We believe that access to high-quality legal advice and representation should not depend solely on an individual’s ability to pay privately.
For clients who qualify, we provide legal advice, assistance and representation funded through Legal Aid in certain areas of Family and Children Law and Criminal Defence.
Our clients receive the same professional service, commitment and attention regardless of whether their case is publicly or privately funded.
Family and Children Legal Aid
Legal Aid remains available for certain family and children law matters, although eligibility will depend upon the nature and circumstances of the case.
Our experienced Family and Children Law team understands that disputes involving children, relationships and domestic abuse can be extremely difficult and emotionally challenging. We provide clear and sensitive advice and will guide you through the legal process.
Depending upon your circumstances and eligibility for Legal Aid, we can assist with matters including:
- Care proceedings and Local Authority involvement
- Child protection matters
- Child arrangements and other disputes concerning children
- Domestic abuse
- Non-Molestation and Occupation Orders
- Emergency applications and injunctions
- Special Guardianship Orders
- Other family and children proceedings where Legal Aid is available
In some types of children proceedings, including certain care proceedings, Legal Aid may be available without the usual financial means assessment.
Criminal Defence Legal Aid
If you are arrested, interviewed by the police, charged with an offence or required to attend court, obtaining legal advice at an early stage can be extremely important.
Legal advice at the police station is available free of charge. If your case proceeds to court, eligibility for Criminal Legal Aid will depend upon the circumstances of the case and, where applicable, your financial circumstances.
Our Criminal Defence team provides advice, assistance and representation across a wide range of criminal matters, including:
- Assault and offences against the person
- Drug offences
- Theft and handling stolen goods
- Fraud and dishonesty offences
- Weapons offences
- Public order offences
- Motoring and road traffic offences
- HM Revenue & Customs investigations
- Trading Standards prosecutions
- Forgery and counterfeiting
- Serious criminal offences
We can advise you on the availability of Legal Aid and, where appropriate, assist with the application process.
Language Support
We recognise that discussing legal proceedings can be more difficult where English is not your first language.
Members of our team are able to provide assistance in Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu, helping clients understand the advice they receive and the legal process affecting them.
