As our client, you can expect:

• An estimate of costs at the outset and, where appropriate, an agreed or fixed fee
• Details of the hourly rates applicable to your matter before work begins
• Regular updates about costs as your matter progresses
• Clear and itemised bills

How Our Fees Are Calculated

Depending on the nature of your matter, our fees may be charged on an hourly rate, fixed-fee or other agreed basis.

Where hourly rates apply, the rate will depend upon the experience and seniority of the lawyer dealing with your matter and the nature and complexity of the work required. We will explain the applicable rates before commencing work on your behalf.

Our legal fees are generally quoted exclusive of VAT, which will be added at the applicable rate.

You may also be responsible for disbursements and third-party expenses incurred on your behalf, such as court fees, Counsel’s fees, expert’s fees, search fees or interpreter’s fees. We will explain any anticipated disbursements where these are known.

Changes to Costs

If the nature or complexity of your matter changes and additional work becomes necessary, we will inform you and provide an updated costs estimate where appropriate.

Any change to the basis upon which we charge you will be discussed with you in advance.

Court Proceedings

Where we represent you in court proceedings, we will explain the basis upon which our fees will be calculated and provide information about the likely costs before proceedings are commenced.

Where relevant, we will also advise you about the potential recovery of legal costs from another party and the risk of being ordered to pay another party’s costs.

Fixed Fees

Fixed fees may be available for certain types of legal work or particular stages of a matter.

Where a fixed fee is available, we will clearly explain what work is included, any work that falls outside the fixed fee and any additional disbursements or expenses that may be payable.
